Wood For Woodworking

Quality Woods Create
Great Pen Turning Products

When it comes to finding good wood for woodworking and pen turning, I’m a crabby old man. When I find something good and order it for my workshop, I'm very protective of it. I hate to see any of the wood go to waste.

The good stuff doesn’t just grow on trees, you know. It's trees, sure, but it’s also hard to find. I can order pen blanks or pieces for my wooden pencil boxes from anywhere on the Web, but if I want top quality I have to be more discerning.

Since I first started making hand turned wood pens, I’ve learned a lot about the different providers and sources. I’ve even gone to the trouble of securing some of my own private sources for good quality wood. You benefit from the pickiness with which I evaluate potential pieces before turning them into pens.

A Critical Eye

I don’t like things that aren’t what they promise. It’s one of the reasons I try to over deliver with my pens. There’s just too much stuff out there that’s not worth the trouble that went into making it.

I put real care and elbow grease into creating top notch products for you.

That’s why I have such a critical eye when it comes to wood that makes the final cut for a project. I don’t want to deal with knots, cracks, or weak pieces. You deserve much better than that.

Protecting The Future

You also deserve to be able to feel confident that you are using a product that supports responsible forestry practice. While everything I own doesn’t need to be labeled organic, I do care a lot about the sources of my wood for woodworking. It’s one of the reasons I get my pecan wood from relatives. I know exactly where and how that wood was raised and harvested.

Value For You

The benefit from my grumpiness about the sources of my wood, is value for you, my customer. My wood for woodworking isn’t scrap from the local lumberyard. It's been meticulously selected to be uniquely beautiful and suitable for extended use by its final owner.

When you buy one of my pens, you get the value of a discerning eye on the materials, a critical eye on the construction, and a carefully proud eye on the final product.
