Hand made pens are also referred to as "hand crafted" pens, which means they were made by hand and the woodworker had discretion as to the design. Custom handmade pens are a work of art when done properly and with the right tools--starting with a unique piece of wood or other material to make it special. Here's an example of a beautiful handmade pen and pencil set that's stylish and offers great appeal.
The plating's relationship to the type of wood that's used goes almost to the point of high fashion in coordinating the right colors and types of clothing for a certain look. I spend a lot of time matching the correct plating to the texture and grain of the wood, corian, and other materials. If you already have your own ideas, you may special order a specific plating with a specific wood or material. The platings I commonly use are:
