Custom Made Wood Pens

Global Pen Turning Materials

Ever wanted to feel like you had the whole world in your hands? With a collection of custom made wood pens you can. You can literally feel a farm in Alabama, a mountainside in Central America, or a dense valley in India.

This is possible because the materials I use to make my pen turning wood pens come from every corner of the world. I’m willing to take wood from any high quality source from Timbuktu to Tijuana. However I do love it when I can buy North American woods!

As that wood travels to me, it’s like being able to suddenly fit an abstract concept—globalization—into the palm of my hand. When I work that wood into a pen for you, it’s like I’m prettying up the world for you. I hope when you write with my custom made wood pens, you can feel the care and attention I put into the task!

The Whole World In Your Hands

Finding the perfect material for the pens I make is something I enjoy. It’s just coincidence that some of the best looking woods come from the far corners of the world. However, it’s a great way to see the world up close and personal for a change.

Maybe you’d like to look at South America. Why not try some Cocobolo? It’s a reddish or yellow wood with dark striping that grows in the dry mountain uplands. The wood darkens as it ages, making each pen unique, and it’s also naturally waterproof, which is a nice touch if you tend to get sweaty palms.

Or maybe you want something closer to home? I get my oak burl from a relative’s farm in Alabama. It’s a strong, tough material for a good looking pen, too.

Reaching Out To Experiment

Of course, there’s always Olivewood, from East Africa, and Tulipwood, from Brazil. The thing is that you don’t have to limit yourself. You can get a whole collection of pens together with wood from every continent. I’m happy to supply you!

It can be a good way to feel like you have some grip on the world around you, that’s for sure. These custom made wood pens aren’t the shifting winds of trade or the changing minds of world leaders. They’re just solid pieces of another part of the world, controlled and resting gently in the palm of your hand.
