All the good Christmas gift ideas are branded, according to the advertisements that come flooding into my mailbox each year. If it doesn’t have a corporate sponsor, it isn’t worth giving. There isn’t a single place on earth better than XYZ store to buy your presents, so you’d better rush right out and buy now!

Yeah, right. I’ve got a house full of stuff that came from the mall, but those gifts aren’t the ones I really treasure. Instead, I value some of the unique gifts that have been made for me over the years by my family and my grandsons.

Let’s face it. The usual Christmas stuff is probably made in China, made of plastic, and made to be replaced. You can do a lot better than the usual stuff this year!

Avoid The Chain Store Stuff

During the holiday season, you go in and out of dozens of chain stores. They all start to look the same after a while, because they are all selling the same Christmas gift ideas. If you’ve seen the inside of one, you’ve pretty much seen the inside of them all. There’s nothing there that’s really that unique or special.

In my workshop, on the other hand, I don’t even have the same stuff around from day to day, much less for a whole season. You never know what you will find there. Some days I’m working in rare hardwoods for a wooden pencil box, and other days I’m making a special pen turning aromatic cedar pen and pencil set for someone’s sweetheart.

While you might find products like mine in high-end specialty catalogues, you certainly won’t see them in the chain stores. You can breathe fresh life into your holiday gift giving habits just by shopping with me. I promise you that you will get something that is a one of a kind item.
